Congratulations to the Stephanie Binder Young Professional Award Winner
Stephanie Binder Young Professional Award
The
memory of NHTSA’s Stephanie Binder was honored at the annual
meeting of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society in Chicago. The Surface
Transportation Technical Group awarded the first annual “Stephanie Binder Young
Professionals Award” in her memory to Birsen Donmez of the University of Toronto.
Stephanie,
a human factors engineer in Vehicle Safety Research who played an instrumental
role in NHTSA’s driver distraction research program, motorcycle conspicuity studies, and connected vehicles research among many other programs, died
unexpectedly at age 35 in 2011.
The
award is intended to recognize a human factors professional, aged 35 or
younger, who demonstrates outstanding contribution to transportation human factors.
NHTSA’s Chris Monk was on hand with committee members Linda Boyle of the
University of Washington and Bryan Reimer of MIT to help present the inaugural
award to Birsen Donmez of the University of Toronto. What a great way to honor Stephanie’s memory!
