NADS is staffed by 18 full-time employees who specialize in studying the connection between humans and vehicles.  Faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students from various departments across campus are involved in conducting research at NADS on topics that include human factors, vehicle safety systems, driver impairment, driver distraction, connected vehicle technologies, drug and clinical driving-related research, automated vehicles, and simulation and on-road data collection technologies.  Development and research conducted at the NADS – sponsored by government, military, and industry partners – saves lives, improves quality of life for motorists, advances the state of the art in driving simulation, and improves the efficiency and productivity of the automotive and supporting industries.
As Director of NADS, the candidate is expected to provide leadership in planning, operating, and administering the National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS).  The Director is responsible for all aspects of NADS research programs and operations, including maintaining its capabilities at the cutting edge of driving simulation technology.  The candidate will have a faculty appointment within the College of Engineering, and will be expected to carry out research, teach, and contribute to the academic mission of the college and the university.
Academic interests may address any aspect of transportation, driving research, or related fields.  We seek a broad and engaging thinker who transcends disciplinary boundaries. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of driving or transportation related issues with a wide ranging impact within and beyond the academy.  An earned doctorate in any relevant Engineering discipline and a strong portfolio of impactful scholarship and teaching are required.  The faculty appointment will be made in one of the College of Engineering academic departments or it could be a joint appointment among multiple departments.  The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
